Why PPE Compliance Matters: Protecting Workers in 2025

At PWS, we are proud members of the British Safety Industry Federation’s (BSIF) Registered Safety Supplier Scheme (RSSS). This membership represents our commitment to providing personal protective equipment (PPE) and workwear that is compliant, high-quality, and fit for purpose.

A Wake-Up Call for Workplace Safety

The BSIF is set to release findings in February highlighting concerns about outdated and poorly maintained PPE in workplaces across the UK. As a supplier who puts safety first, we are joining the BSIF’s call for businesses to review and refresh their PPE stock to ensure workers remain protected as we enter 2025.

Key Issues Highlighted by the Survey

Initial feedback points to troubling trends in PPE maintenance and usage:

  • Worn-out Hi-Vis clothing that no longer meets visibility standards, putting workers at risk in low-light conditions.

  • Damaged helmets showing severe wear and tear, potentially compromising head protection.

  • Ripped clothing and defunct respiratory protection still in use, leaving workers vulnerable to hazardous environments.

These early observations underline the risks of prioritising cost over compliance and highlight the dangers of misuse and poor-fitting PPE in the workplace.

The Real Cost of Non-Compliance

PPE isn’t just another business expense—it’s an investment in worker safety. Cutting corners by using non-compliant or poorly maintained equipment exposes businesses to:

  • Increased workplace injuries

  • Lost productivity due to accidents

  • Potential legal and financial penalties

Alan Murray, CEO of BSIF, emphasised that PPE must not only meet basic standards but also be maintained and fit for purpose at all times to ensure worker safety. He warned against the dangerous mindset that “any PPE is good enough.”

PWS: Your Partner in Safety

At PWS, we believe that safety should never be compromised. As part of the RSSS, we pledge to:

  • Supply certified PPE that meets required standards.

  • Work closely with trusted manufacturers to verify compliance.

  • Ensure our team is trained to deliver expert advice and guidance.

We are fully aligned with the BSIF’s PPE Saves Lives campaign, which launches this spring. We encourage businesses to make a New Year’s resolution to prioritise safety by reviewing and replacing outdated PPE.

Take Action Today

Worker safety is non-negotiable. As we start 2025, it’s time to ensure your workforce is equipped with compliant, high-quality PPE.
