HSE Asbestos and You Campaign

June 2023

HSE’s Asbestos and You campaign urges people to be aware of disturbing asbestos, especially when renovating and refurbishing properties built before the year 2000. This month, 2 new free resources have been launched for workers to test and enhance their knowledge about asbestos and the risks associated with it.

The HSE’s Asbestos and You campaign urges tradespeople working in construction to be aware of disturbing asbestos.
Find out if you know enough to protect yourself and others from exposure to asbestos fibres by taking the Asbestos and You quick quiz.

You can share your results with others on social media and with those you work with to see how they do.

Last month the HSE held a webinar in partnership with The Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). This webinar is now available to watch for free on YouTube when it’s convenient to you. From the 1-hour long webinar you’ll get an understanding of HSE’s Asbestos and You campaign and hear from experts who discuss the risks that continue to be associated with asbestos, particularly with younger workers.

Speakers include:
• Louise Hosking, IOSH’s Immediate Past President as chair
• Archie Mitchell, HSE Head of Asbestos Unit for Building Safety & Construction Division
• Liam Bradley from Bauder Ltd, who shares his experience of living with pleural mesothelioma, a cancer caused by asbestos exposure
• Nathanael Challacombe of the IOSH Construction Group

Support the Asbestos and You campaign and help raise awareness that asbestos didn’t disappear when it was banned in the UK and remains in places that you might not expect. Join the many organisations supporting the Asbestos and You campaign by downloading the campaign toolkit and resources to share with your networks.
